Your driving test should last approximately 40 minutes.
The best way to pay is to book online and manage your payments through your learner portal. You can also call our team and make card payments over the phone. You can make savings by paying for your lessons in blocks.
You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for the enhanced rate of the mobility component of personal independence payment (PIP). Otherwise, you must be 17 years of age. You can apply for your provisional before your 17th Birthday and you can always start to prepare for your theory test.

We have a range of modern cars, such as the Citroen C3, Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207 and Ford Focus which all come with dual controls for your peace of mind and safety.
There are several theory test centers across the UK. Your Smartlearner instructor or our support team will be able to advise you of your nearest center.
The beginner package is a specialised package for learners with no prior experience. The package covers 3 hours on the first 2 lessons. This is split into 2 x 1.5-hour sessions. The other 2 hours are then held by the instructor until you are ready for the practical test. These 2 hours cover 1 hour before the test and 1 hour in which you rent the car from the instructor to take the test.
No, and in fact it may be better to learn the theory whilst having practical lessons. You will, however, need to pass the theory test before applying for the practical test.
Yes, we do offer intensive driving courses. These can be anything from 3 days to 10 days. Undertaking an intensive course will depend on several factors, such as previous experience and whether you have passed your theory test. If you are not sure which course would be best for you, talk to our support team who will be happy to advise you on your options and book a separate assessment lesson if needed.
The number of lessons required varies from student to student and is dependent on many factors, such as availability and learning style. Your instructor will also monitor your progress using your ‘On the Move’ book and keep you fully informed.
You need to be at least 17 years of age and if you have not already done so, apply for a provisional license from the DVLA. You can do this online or by getting an application form from the post office. It is also worth having an eyesight check, but in any event, ensure you can read a standard car number plate at 20.5 metres. Also, read our advice on getting started.
Driving lessons vary in cost depending on where you live. Our instructor finder or our support team will help you find out the lesson price as well as the latest offers in your area.
Continuity of driving lessons is important and Smartlearner recommends that you have between 2 and 4 hours per week. You will also progress much quicker if you have two hour lessons each time.
You should take advantage of our discounts, which are available on block-bookings. These generally apply on 10 hours or more. Why not enter your postcode in our instructor finder to find the best offer for you?

Read More Call us todayI joined SmartLearner as a Trainee Instructor 6 years ago and never looked back. Never short of work friendly team with a real focus on customer service.
I had a bad experience with a national driving school, only interested in taking my payment. So wanted to move to a company that cared about its instructors. SmartLearner certainly has the instructor interest at heart.
I passed my test years ago, but hadn’t driven since and needed some refresher lessons. The instructor at smartlearners was very patient and encouraging and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. Thanks to SmartLearners I’m now back on the road. I couldn’t recommend smartlearners more highly!
The Service provided by Smartlearners was excellent, from booking my first driving lesson to being on the road. The instructors was patient, polite and punctual, with communication skills being exemplary throughout my driving skills.
Thanks to smartlearners for helping me pass my driving test. The facilities offered by the school were good with clean cars, mod con driving apps, responsive booking service”. “The service provided by the school was brilliant from booking my first lesson to passing. The instructor put me at ease by being patient. I would recommend the school to others as they use modern technology to teach
